Speech-Language Pathology Services

This service addresses swallowing or communication difficulties. Therapists work on verbal and non-verbal communication skills, swallowing ability, and understanding language.

Physical Therapy

This service addresses movement dysfunction. Therapists work on improving the child’s physical ability to sit, crawl, walk, and run.

Service Coordination

This service locates, coordinates, and monitors the Early Intervention services a child receives in their natural environments.

Occupational Therapy

This service addresses the functional need of children related to adaptive equipment or behaviors. Therapists work on improving the child’s functional abilities to feed, dress, and play independently. Occupational therapists
help children process and respond to sensory information from their environment like sounds, touch, and smells.

Special Instruction

This service provides the family with information, skill-building activities, and supports to address a variety of developmental needs, including learning, problem- solving, and social interaction.

This service provides the family with specialized information, skill-building activities, and supports to address hearing or
vision conditions for the child.

Special Instruction -
Nutrition

This service provides the family with specialized information, skill-building activities, and supports from a Registered
Dietician to address feeding and nutritional needs for the child.

What will the services cost?

Early Intervention Services are provided at no cost to families. Funding is available through Medical Assistance, the Infant and Toddler Family Waiver, and Early Intervention state funds. The Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) administers Pennsylvania's Early Intervention program for eligible infants, toddlers, and preschoolers through a unique collaboration between the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education (PDE) and Dept. of Human Services (DHS).
